Well we are a way into this generation now, plenty of time for hits to be released and disapointments as well. What has wowed you, entertained you, distracted you, made you curse for a variety of reasons, and sit on the edge of your seat? What are your top 5 games this gen so far?

For me

5. Warhawk

I've only had this game for about a month but it has owned so much of my free time. Huge in scope, deep in strategy and technique, varied and fresh, balanced and fair, chaotic and fast paced, this is what a multiplayer game should be. It's lack of single player doesn't disapoint me in the least with how incredible the multiplayer is.

4. Portal

A marvel of a game. A small group of independant developers had a great concept that got picked up by an incredible developing house and magic was made. Fresh and innovative with a wicked sense of humor an absolute must play for any fan of videogames.

3. Call of duty 4

Won a many a game of the year awards and with very good reason. The phenomenal single player experience is a natural extension of the ideas forged by the original Half Life and it's ilk, by keeping you in character at all times and providing intense scripted events, it made a frantic, cinematic and often times frightening experience of war. With unforgettable often haunting scenes, and an incredible and emotional ending the single player is a ride that shouldn't be missed. And I don't even have to mention it's multiplayer that stole a many a lives from innocent gamers.

2. No More Heroes

A game that never achieved the level of success it deserved. Artistic in every sense of the word, it is Suda 51's masterpiece. Over the top satirical violence, unforgettable bad ass characters, amazing soundtrack, deeply layered story and piece alltogether, it is brilliant. One of the few games that makes good use of the wii's motion controls, it doesn't add excessive waggle for the hell of it, but uses it as punctuation to your attacks. Pulling your hands apart, then slamming them down to perform a german suplex (with flying sword landing in the guy's head after Travis gets up) is incredibley satisfying. The boss fights were unique, engaging, and exploding with personality. I fell in love with each boss even though they only get a brief dialogue, and then a fight and are gone forever. I found my self screaming at the TV, trash talking, actually sitting on the edge of my couch, swinging my arms with far more ferocity than necessary because I was just that engaged in the fights with the bosses. This game has lots of inside jokes, hidden references, and little clues, I've played through this game several times and each time I do I find something or realize something that I didn't the last time. Travis Touchdown is by for my favorite new character introduced this generation and I really really really hope it's not the last we see of him.

1. Super Mario Galaxy

Another game that won lots of Game of the Year Awards and with good reasons. A wet dream for any long time Nintendo gamer, Super Mario Galaxy is everything you could want in a 3d Mario and more. I don't have much to say on this one because it's so self explanatory. Mario is the face of videogames and with good reason. This game is pure joy, it's hard not to smile the entire time you're playing.

That's my list, how about yours?
