All I know is they really need to do this to jump start 360 interest. Letting PS3 gain momentum earlier this year is a costly mistake. While this is anecdote, but they are often good reflection of general trend in the market. What I notice is that there are a lot more Wii in the wild due to increase production and slowdown in interest (which will pick up around holidays), the 360 barely move (even with current price drop) but PS3 seems to be selling briskly. They might not move fast but they are moving.
Conversation with my friends at local GameStop confirm the trend of growing PS3 interested. I noticed that PS3 game section has gotten a lot bigger and employees there who used to own exclusively 360 system and / or Wii have now all getting PS3 and getting rid of either 360 or Wii.
I hope MS has some ace up its sleeve because this holiday is going to be showdown for 2nd place.
