Well you have different kinds of film, and that is too complicated for me to get into here. But all actual film is HD. That can be brought out a lot easier with a digital projector though.

1080p is the best common standard unquestionably, although you can't really tell the difference unless the screen is 32" or larger or unless you have a lot of experience in distinguishing between resolutions, etc.
