The problem with LO is that it is character driven rather than plot driven. It's a story all about the characters, which is most notably achieved through the Dreams. Plot driven stories are typically easier to consume, they require less thought or analysis and are in general more superifcial. LO has more character development than any RPG I can remember, with plenty of subtlty and nuance to its storytelling. As a result it's naturally not going to appeal to the average gamer, who typically has all the subtlty of a jackhammer.

As for the OP, I recall needing to use Jansen and Fire to win that early battle. It's a difficult battle to be sure, but easily winnable with a consistent strategy. Afterall, the game is designed so you never have to grind - it is designed primarily so that you will need to use a consistent strategy to win many of the battles.

I have trouble I'm believing I'm going to like these characters than, say, the characters in FFVI.

And there was no strategy to that fight, that's why I was losing.  I was use to good games like FFIVDS where I actually had to think my way through the battle.  The only thing that kept me from spamming the action button and playing on the internet were the rings.

Why do you make the title : " I want to like Lost Odyssey "?
If you don't like it.
Every game has it's flaws, try and overcome them or just don't play games....

Did you read my opening post?  I said Iwas going to at the very least finish the first disc and overcome the *many* flaws.

I liked it a lot on the whole...

RPGs always have boring bits that drag on towards the end...I mean it is 50 hours, FFIXFFXFFX-2FFXIIStar Ocean 3...all similar lengeths were exactly the same.

You don't need much strategy for the first few bosses....of course this is an RPG, and has always been the case at the start.

@Skeeuk You CAN grind, each area has a cap, if you reach the cap go to another area with stronger beasties!!!!

Its not the best RPG, the story can drag...But for the current climate of not many RPGs being around its pretty darn good.

Every RPG I've played and liked hasn't had the boring bits you're talking about.  Those boring bits are usually the sing of a bad game.

Oh, and no offense but the fact that you actually mention FFX-2 makes me lose all respect for any of your opinions on RPGS.
