playing a sequel to a game series you love can either cause you to hate the game because it has a few flaws (Mario Sunshine) even though it is still an excellent game.

Or vice versa playing a game from a series you love may mean you rate it higher than it would be on it's own because of the nostalgia (Twilight Princess)

All reviewers can do is rate the game based on how much they enjoyed it, it's not their fault if they are biased for or against it due to past iterations.... which is why gamers should stop focussing on the scores a game gets and start reading the reviews, because a good reviewer will always mention things like that. Whether it seems better tha predecessors or worse.
