As appossed to the sims that as a franchise has sold over 100 million copies? Lets not kid ourselves. Whilst the half-life franchise is massive its simply not in the same league as the sims in regards to sales. If the trade off is slightly diminished critical acclaim then most people in business would take it.

Half Life gave Valve the time and finances to create Half Life 2, Steam and much other goodness. The Sims and its sequel and its interminable add-ons gave Maxis the money to apparently try and create more money with yet another toy, no doubt to be followed by yet more monetized rubbish which could easily have been part of the main game. I know which company's getting my money over the next year.
DRM sucks, but whenever a game with DRM comes out, I have to think about half the whiners don't really care, they just want an excuse to pirate the game. You could always just download a crack after buying, but whatever.
Or they just don't bother buying it, like myself with Bioshock (until its DRM went), Mass Effect and now this. I'm perfectly willing to pay for my vice, there's no way I'm paying for something that might give me hassle.
