It's the Xbox Media Center remote so can be used for the drive and media center extender.
You can also use it as an external PC DVD-ROM. With Vista just plug it in and it works. XP you'll need drivers but are easy to find. If you ever decide to buy some some HD DVD's you can back them up on your PC in case the drive ever fails.
