Yes understanding that many other people have it does help with wrapping your head around the concept that it is all in your head and your body is doing fine.

One thing I can't stress enough, if at all possible, you need to learn how to deal with the attacks without the aid of anything else.  The more escapes you use or chemicals you use, the more you will become dependant on them.  You having both OCD and panic attacks makes complete sense as they are both anxiety related disorders.  You need to see a psychologist also, not just a medical doctor.  It is very likely that they can help you deal with this problem.  It takes work and time.  I'm not against taking drugs for these things, but take them while you are in treatment for a long term cure.
