If most people bothered to crunch the numbers or use last year's holiday season totals as an index for this year's sales, then 25m would be the most conservative estimate, ie. not drastically reducing numbers due to an irrational hatred of MS or adding excessive numbers due to unrealistic expectations typical of platform cheerleaders.
If MS has a good season, posting slight growth over last year, then the number should be closer to 26m; not entirely farfetched considering the current price restructuring.
I really won't say whether I think there have been more Sony fanboys as reflected on VGC, but it is unquestionable that the overall user base for the PS3 continues to grow. Just consider there's probably a correlation between the two.
I also suspect many of the lowball estimates for both the PS3 and the 360 are being posted by those who really want to see the Wii hit 50% market share by the end of 2008.
The only way that will happen is if both consoles sell worse than last year, as anyone who added up the numbers probably realized.
