Doctors are favouring expensive new drugs over conventional therapies far too often.

And they make more money doing that.  In almost all cases, the more expensive treatment is also the most profitable.  To make things worse, most patients are naturally ill-iformed about medicine and unable to make judgements regarding which treatment they should have, so they usually leave it up to the doctor who is trying to make as much money as he can.

It would be similar to going to a used car dealership and letting the salesman choose a car and price for you.

Yea, that's illegal. A pharma company cannot pay kickbacks for writing perscriptions. Drugs yeild no profitability to doctors. Also, poor people usually aren't economically smart enough to realize that buying a name brand drug at a clinic pharmacy is stupid. You can save alot of money buy buying a generic from a walmart or target.
