For me, it's a lot like movie reviews. I might disagree with the score at the end, but it gives me enough of an idea what to expect, and also makes me a little more aware of games that I wouldn't really give much thought on if I hadn't heard anything about it. If I'm still skeptical, I'll just rent it before making the final call.
