| Noobie said: @talkingparrot, reading your impression it seems that PS3 is slightly leading now in terms of game quality and variety... but we know that Americans are still not embracing the PS3 as they embraced PS2. and they feel PS3 is too expensive and not worth it console.. So wot is your general impression about the public... did you find that public had visible more interest in PS3 titles and PS3 in general and do u think PS3 will have a better holiday season in NA than XBOX360.? |
PAX is held in Seattle. This is the home town of Microsoft. The gaming public here is very different than say, the gaming public in Santa Monica. This is where Xbox was born. This is where all the promotions began. This place will always beat with Microsoft colors. However, the show floor was interesting. In terms of popularity, here is what I saw: (From least to greatest in size)
7. Gears 2 on its first day and in the mornings was huge. However, as the days went on, it became increasingly dense. People are very judgemental, so they saw that it was the same map from Gears 1 and looked exactly like it, and walked away.
6. Halo 3 has a huge following here. They were showcasing a new map, so a large amount of people were on watch for that. It shocked me how many people stood in line to play a game they had at home.
5. Fallout 3 probably would have been number 3, just ahead of Resistance 2, if it wasn't for the douchebags who were running it.
4. Mirror's Edge- when you saw the graphics in this title, it just blew you away. It looks innovative, interesting, and you wanted to play it.
3. Resistance 2- guys, this game is going to be a hit with the shooter crowd. At first, and in the mornings, no one cared. As the day went on, and people played it, they were wowed at the depth. Also, as far as swag goes, alongside the Little Big Planet tote was the Resistance 2 tote. You had tons of people trying this game out for that reason alone. Some people were upset about the graphics, but once they played it, realized it was unfinished, and finally understood the gameplay, they all smirked with glee.
2. Left 4 Dead probably had the second largest amount of people. People like their zombies.
1. Little Big Planet was the biggest title on the floor. This game, I hope sells, 10101010100148585 copies. Depending on time of day, people just stuffed the little corner. So much so that you saw sites all over the place trying to get footage, but couldn't due to the amount of people. As soon as you saw this game running in real time, the graphics and adorability of the titles just stole your soul. EVERYONE wanted to play this title. Even the most hardcore of hardcore Xbox / Wii fans wanted hands on.
Rock Band and Guitar Hero were the largest games, HOWEVER, they were large because people wanted to show off their karaoke skills.
General consensus here will always be Xbox 360. This is their home turf. Its like trying to find a UF fan in Tallahasee. However, people were changing their tune on the PS3's relevance. I remember asking people "Would you buy a PS3?", and most said "If it was 50 bucks cheaper, hell yeah."
Oh, and people HATED the Wii. If you listen to the latest 1up Yours Podcast live from PAX, there is even a mention of one of the editors talking about the Conduit, which got nothing but Boos.
Console Agnostic since 2001.
