Impulsivity said: The 360 really has nowhere to go is the point. I mean it has a few pretty decent processors and a decent GPU but its not like optimization or learning how to run parallel lines of code is going to save the 360. With the PS3 performance will improve for years to come as devs get better and better at running different lines of code to the many PS3 processors (something that is, I believe, the future of gaming. It won't be faster cores which take more energy and run hotter, it will be more smaller cores in sets of 8 or more, see some great intel tech demos on the subject).
Its not that the PS3 potential is unlimited, its just far more scalable so it will be current for years after the 360. I mean Epic already has pointed to games that didn't reach their potential because of the 360 like Gears of War. They released a better looking PC version which they themselves said contained levels the 360 could never handle. |
Lets see: Hardware tessellator, currently unushed - saves 20-30mb memory in a typical scene and speeds triangle formation by about 3*
Xbox 360 games are currently CPU limited overall, because many of the games are overloading core 1. This means we haven't even touched the full potential of the GPU yet.
There you go.

Yeah, M$ is doing some heavy research into optimizing multi-core/thread processing.
