Really i would be upset if batterylife actually decreased but the option of bateries is kinda cool too. I think I would probably use less power on the bateries if I hook it up with the audio video out too if it be in the car or at home. While 5 hours should be fine for most times I guess I could bring the bigger battery for long trips?

Alot of folks here seem to be all about what was wrong about the PSP redesign or Sony should have changed more. I was just wondering What was exactly "changed"in the DS - DS Lite? I see it sold alot of units but it seems all Nintendo has to do is change colors to sell units and make fans happy. while Sony is held to a different standard altogether.

I still do not have a handheld since the first release of the GB SP but I am definitly leaning towards the PSP "slim" the games on PSP are more of what i Like since i like the whole console game feel of it.

Are you kidding?

DS Lite differences vs. PSP Slim differences:

-Weight

DS Lite becomes 21% lighter

PSP becomes 33% lighter, but if you add back in the old battery it goes back to nearly the same weight (and all the weight is on one side)

-Size

The DS Lite has 42% less volume, making it much more compact.

The PSP Slim has 19% less volume, making it basically the same size.

-Battery Life

The DS Lite took the DS's 6-10 hour battery life and raised it to 15-19 hours.

PSP Slim is still 3-6 hours (now 1/5th of the DS's battery life) unless you either buy an old PSP battery or use your old one, which raises it to 6-8 hours, but make it heavy again and awkward with a bulge in the back.

-Control Improvements

DS Lite improves the thumb pad, the stylus, shifts the power button (can't tell you how many times I accidentally hit the power button before) and makes it a power switch instead, built in microphone shifted to a more reasonable location, stylus location shifted to the side where it can be pulled out and stored again much quicker.

PSP Slim improves the thumb pad. Wifi switch moved to the top so that you don't accidentally bump it. The bad L and R buttons and analog nub are left the same.

-Gaming improvements

DS Lite has a much brighter screen, and allows for 4 adjustable levels of brightness. It didn't lower load times, but no DS games have long load times anyway, as they all run on cartridges.

PSP Lite added more ram so that there is the possibility that in the future, if developers happen to know how to do it, and decide to put the effort into it, some games could have slightly faster load times. All old games retain their same BS load times, and Jack couldn't site any new games that will take advantage of this. If I am only getting 3 hours of battery life I don't like spending 10 minutes a game waiting on load screens.

-Multimedia functions

DS never had any, this remains unchanged.

The PSP now has a place to hook up a cord to your TV so you can watch the dead UMD format on your home television (yay?). The cord is not included. Costs for it haven't been released but count on $20-$30.

-Aesthetic improvements

The DS Lite looks completely different from the DS. It's small, sleeker, and matchest the aesthetic style of the Wii. It comes in 3 new colors: polar white, onyx black, and coral pink (more if you get it from Japan).

The PSP Slim is aesthetically identical other than being about 1 cm thinner. It added ice silver as a color and polar white (only if you buy the star wars pack).

So, in conclusion, the DS update may not have been huge, but they did a lot to change the system and they actually did everything they claimed. If I get a PSP slim, what is going to change? Nothing, that's what. I don't use crappy UMD movies on my PSP, I'm not going to buy a new cord, it's not going to fix the shitty load times, and it's going to have the same 3 hour battery life unless I want to make it heavy and awkward (for a small increase). There is no reason at all for me to purchase a new PSP when they didn't even fix the problems I have with my old PSP. Yes people have the right to be angry with Sony, they outright lied about their redesign.

This is an excellent explantation on why not to get a psp slim...I've been debating over it for so long....I currently want one now...and looking at how far away the wait is September 2007 i cant wait that long considering I want a mp3 and I dont have a ipod....so it looks convient for me to purchase the original one...i dont have a problem buying the old one..games will be games, i dont play games really on the go only if im really bored.increased loading WOW thats a biggy NOT!!..just the features are just plain dumb..considering your getting a game and memory stick its just not worth it..im not a huge fan of Daxter and family guy i can always upload on the psp throught the computer...thanks naznatips you really proved a good statement...and also considering we are going to have to go through the defect position again..considering it is a new SKU and that dead pixels are going to be avaiable again on the system and you know other problems...for the psp lite...my money going to the original-well establish defect free psp....
