Realisticaly, performce for the price always favours PCs soon after a new console is released ... I wouldn't be that surprised if by this time next year a $500 to $700 laptop outperforms the XBox 360 and PS3 when playing the same games.
Te reason for this is that the PS3 and XBox 360 are bound by the performance that was possible under certain cost and energy use requirements while using a 90nm process ... Today, many PC components are produced using a 55nm or 45nm process, and in the near future they will drop down to a 32nm manufacturing process which dramatically increases the performance at the same cost and energy requirements.
