Blue Dragon is a very nice game. It got pretty much lambasted because it was the first real jrpg of the gen with Uematsu, Sakaguchi and Toriyama in the cast and a shooter box exclusive. The characters are awful and the story is pretty generic and archaic (think preFF7 jrpgs) which kinda drags down the game.

One thing I didn't understand is why they patched later the harder difficulty levels... the job system is pretty much useless on normal play since the game's a cakewalk but notch up the difficulty and it all makes a lot of sense. Unlike LO, the ending is awesome. The last level is fabulous and the state of things at the end of the game makes me sad since the chances of a BD2 are slim. Oh, bonus points for the Toriyama in-game appearance.

Lost Odyssey is more solid overall, it also has some technical issues but the game runs better than Blue Dragon. Some of the characters are genuinely interesting and the story is crafted better. The early-mid game story arch of reuniting together what remains of Caim's family worked very well. It kinda goes dry at the end because it turns totally FF-esque.
