MS pricing schemes do make better use of consumers' psychology, though. Sucker them in with a lower initial price, then add on tons of costs when people figure "well, I'm already in this for $349..." Not cheaper than PS3 now, is it? |
Actually, MS pricing schemes are to ensure that people only pay for what they need.
Let's compare (AUD prices at RRP):
Xbox 360 20gb $499
+ Wireless adapter $169.95
+ Rechargeable Battery pack (3rd party) $30
= $698.90
VS
Playstation 3 40gb $699
+ HDMI Cables $ anywhere betwene 50-100, but I'll use the price I got on ebay which was $20
= $719
So assuming you need a wireless adapter (which sony force into the costs for the PS3), you're still paying $20 more for the PS3 to get them on the same level. Assuming you don't need a wireless adapter, the difference is $190.
