good post. but, I think the idea is that there's profit to be had. I think Microsoft knows more than anyone that open-ended meens no market control for them. Why in-fact would people pay First party for anything of some third party can develop an all-in-one wonderbox. Sorta like why buy a proprietary iPod that only works with iTunes and had (originally) crap for space, when anyone could have gone an bought an mp3 player for a fraction of the cost and put any mp3 they want on their for free. How does Apple stay in business again? WHy do people buy their products? Sorry, I digress.
Microsoft has a smidgeoun more respect for their customers than Apple.
