The left-right spectrum is typically related to how free your ecconomy is ... and in both communist and facist states the ecconomy tends to be heavily regulated. In a communist state the means of production are entirely controlled by the state, and they decide what is produced in order to 'Benefit' the people; which generally means that some official decides how many boxes of Lenin-O's are produced in order to give an adequate supply of breakfast cereal for the people. In a facist state the means of production are controled in order to 'Benefit' the state; which generally means that you tell a factory owner that they can manufacture anything they want as long as it is tanks for the army.
