As much as I like my 360, the RRoD was a serious issue that never should have happened. Personally I've never had any issues with mine, but given the reports, it seems almost certain that it will break eventually. Microsoft was also slow in acknowledging the problem and moving to extend the warranty. They've also been too slow to drop the price; although $400 was a completely reasonable launch price, $350 today makes it difficult to recommend the system to anyone but a hardcore gamer. The upcoming price cuts can't come soon enough. Finally, many accessories are too expensive. I appreciate the fact that certain things aren't built-in: why pay extra for wireless if you're going to use an ethernet cable? Why pay extra for a rechargeable battery pack if you already own rechargeable batteries? At $100 for the wireless adapter though, I'd feel ripped off if I was in a situation where wireless was the only convenient option.
All that said, I still think Sony was worse. The way I saw their launch was this: "Yeah, we're obscenely expensive. We have no games. Our architecture is a nightmare to develop for. Our development tools are terrible. It doesn't matter; we're Sony. Everyone will ignore our competitors and do whatever they have to do to buy our console. Third-party developers will suck it up and support us exclusively. Damn, it's good to be the king." They've improved since then, but every penny they've lost on the PS3 was well deserved.
