This is Microsoft. They have rumors floating around like it's the last day of the Buy-2-Get-1-Free Rumor Sale. And many of them result in nothing more than vapor, just hype to get people excited and to pay less attention to whatever they're trying to compete with.
And hey, why not? If people are still willing to believe that MS is telling the truth every time a rumor "leaks" from MS about some product, they're going to keep milking that gullibility. It lets them "compete" without any need to produce an actual product, since they can count on their loyal followers not buying their would-be competitors' products in hopes of seeing an MS version come out. And hey, if they can net enough interest, maybe they'll actually make a half-hearted attempt to produce that item.
This is not new. Microsoft has done this over and over again. Windows 2000, Windows XP, DirectShow, the original XBOX, the Zune, Windows Vista, the XBOX 360, and countless other MS products were "leaked" as being in development significantly before their release to build hype. And the end product has never, ever, ever lived up to that hype. The XBOX handheld is vaporware, and shall remain vaporware until it's on store shelves. Do not play into Microsoft's hands and believe the hype.
