Brand perception is a big factor in this. If you ask anyone on the street, many more know of MS's wrongdoings (abusing monopoly powers) than Sony's (DRM rootkits, etc.). If MS achieves it's goal, which is to have a monopoly on the digital living room environment, people know that they will apply the same overpricing scheme that they do on OS and Office applications. They already do that with their proprietary accessories like hard drives and wireless adapters. Their practices in other businesses reflect consumers' purchase decision.

Making a business mission of just taking someone out of the competition without wanting to bring something to the competition does not usually work. Sony and Nintendo are constantly looking in new markets while MS is trying to emulate the PS2 from last generation.

That said, I do like what the Xbox 360 has to offer. But, I probably wouldn't get one if it weren't for the exclusive jRPG line-up because PS3 and PC offer everything else I want.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.
