I'd wager the gameplay is fairly similar, with new tools and mechanics (Like barrel rolling. If only Peppy made a cameo). Also, according to the 15 minute video, a FPS mode. But that's kinda the thing about stealth games, there's some very basic mechanics that don't change much from game to game, with different tweaks, tools and skills.
And those who like those games will definitely like metal gear. Even if story can concentrate a lot on genes instead of subterfuge and nuclear war, which one would really expect. Sometimes I think Kojima spends all his time taking genetics classes.
Plus, Snake can now cockpunch! Truthfully, I'm expecting an improvement on gameplay in a game that's already credited as very good, so if it was crappy before in one's opinion, I doubt that will change, but if it was mediocre or higher in your opinion before, it'll be better now.
