I think a better way of putting it was Biden was a safer pick for Obama than Palin is for McCain. Whether they are good for them has yet to be seen. Palin did pretty much come outta nowhere but yet doesnt surprise me. She has experience with energy (helped get a new gas pipeline in Alaska) so that could work in the Reps favor of course. However it is pretty obvious that well..they wanted the Hillary votes.
Edit: Very much agree that VP nominations make little difference.
