If one is ignorant of what's around him, he wouldn't be able to change it. Take a father whose son was addicted to drugs - If he knew his son was using drugs, he would probably try and step in through the ordeal. But if he never knew about it, he would never have done anything.

The "safety" is but a product of ignorance, it is misleading sense of security. The Father would certainly feel calmer if he never knew and worried about his son's illness.
