big chill or big rip (the universe wont stop to expand until everything is separated, that's a cold ending)
In the text ‘’ Where is the universe heading? By James Trefil , the author try to explain the possibility of how the universe will end. First of all, Cosmologists, by using a very complex mathematical algorithm, found out that de density of the universe is about the mass of one proton per cubic meter represented by Ωc, which doesn’t seem much but by considering the size of the universe it’s an astronomic number. While knowing the density, the astronomers didn’t find the quantity of matter to explain that number, since galaxies, dust clouds and other ordinary matter represent only 4% of the mass of the universe. By trying to answer that question they find out the existence of "dark matter", representing 22% of the universe, and "dark energy" whom represent around 74% of the universe. They are not fully explained yet, since their discovery is recent. It’s those two components, that influence the way the universes will end up, because dark matter tend to make the galaxy get closer and closer due to gravity. Dark energy in the other case, make things gets farther due to repulsive energy. By calculating the explosion of supernova we now know for certain that the universe is expanding. Now, the question is to know if dark matter will put enough gravitational attraction to slow down the universe or is it going to go faster and faster, since gravitational attraction get weaker when things are farther apart. If "dark matter" wins, the universe will most likely end up into the Big Crunch, it’s the reverse of the big bang. But on the other hand, if it keeps expending it will either end up in the Big Chill or the Big Rip, In that case all matter will be separated apart even atoms.
