Sony and Apple are no angels, nor are they friends.
Sony lost the music player business because they refused to support mp3 and tried to force ATRAC on the consumer. The very type non-open standard you knock MS for.
Apple stole the idea of the GUI from Xerox and that story is well documented.
MS has supported Apple more than you think as well. Office has been one of the best selling applications for the Mac and has made MS a lot of money.
