I hate this saying with a passion. It doesn't say anything and it is never correct. Back in the 40's a poor person couldnt afford food and cloths, now an average poor person has 1 car, an apartment, a tv, cable, cell phones, and cloths. It seems to me that the poor have gotten richer. It's such a stupid and asinine saying.
It would be better to say: "The rich keep doing the things that make them rich (work, invest, live within their means) and the poor keep doing the things that make them poor (spend, dont save, have children they can't afford)."
