I think it really depends on what you do in the 20-30hrs. Quite a few people on these forums deride Mass Effect for being 20-30hrs...But at least in my case, I've spent close to 100 enjoyable hours with various playthroughs, and never getting the same game twice. |
IU and ME are nothing alike.
ME can get another playthrough because of the whole "Renegade/Paragon" thing, and while it's story driven, there's a gaggle of (repetitive) "side missions" that I suppose people could have fun with if you enjoy the same five locations re-used for all the side-missions and load times coming off and on of every planet. By chance, how many hours of ME did the game spend loading? :P
I don't see how people could play ME for any more than the 15/20 hours it takes to beat the game unless there was an achievement to do so, unless you really wanted to explore being good or bad, but really, didn't we already get enough of that in Kotor 1? Kotor 2? Jade Empire?
A JRPG being 20-30 hours is different than a JRPG. Since IU is more linear, and story driven than Mass Effect, which was open since you got the Normady, replaying the game wouldn't yield entirely different results like ME would, and would be very boring.
But I digress, I was never excited about the game (Rightfully so, it seems), and don't really care about the score. It just strikes me as odd that 20 hours is okay for a JRPG.
