Sony probably paid them money not to release it, or they don't wanna risk bad blood with Sony for 40,000 sales. It wouldn't make any sense to change their minds and release it in Japan now. If they were going to do it they would have just announced it from the start. There is a lot more to lose at this point making it multi-platform on an install base that basically doesn't even exist. People in Japan will buy PS3's to play FFXIII. End of story. |
Hate to nitpick, but there are at least 200k JRPG fans owning Xbox 360's in Japan (as of a year ago when BD pretty much stopped selling). By now, that could be 300k. In fact in Japan, the Xbox 360 has a higher proven number of JRPG players than the PS3.
If the ultimate JRPG released day and date on the Xbox 360 (also the cheaper system) I think it is safe to say that it would sell 200-300k lifetime in Japan. Certainly not nearly what it would sell on the PS3, but as a stock owner in SE and being heavily reliant on the company's future titles, Sony isn't really going to have an power to hurt them.
