Higher numbers of players online does not translate into a greater online experience. Smaller numbers can allow for different feel.

 

I'm inclined to agree with you somewhat, but 8 players is pretty damn sparse. If the maps really are the same, trying to fill out a map designed for 32 players with only 8 is going to feel pretty desolate. And what happens when people strart dropping out of an 8 player match? Lose two people on one team and the remaining two are outnumbered two to one!

24 players is about my sweet spot. 16 is a good minimum, while 32 is getting to be too crowded.
