PS3 plays some AVI files, not others??

I installed linux and use vlc as my media player on the ps3. It plays pretty well everything (I have not found a video file it does not play yet).

It's a bit of a pain to have to reboot to watch a movie etc, but other than having to be a little patient it does work well. (about 2 mins to boot to linux, and about 15 seconds to boot back into ps3 mode).

If you want to be sure it'll work everywhere, use mpeg. (I personally don't see the advantage, if any, of using AVI, but for some reason all media you find now a days is avi with who knows what variant of who knows what codec....).
