I disagree, but I'll admit I just skimmed some parts. I've read articles like this before.
Taking out Mario would lead to "casual" consumers not knowing what games are the Nintendo ones - this would result in them just as well buying the not-so-good third party ones.
Having said that, I believe it's happening. Soon, the Mii franchise will have taken over the Mario sports franchise.
Mario Kart and Platformers will probably be around for a while though.
