i actually agree kind of. They could unlock the 8th processor, and like what they did with the PSP, they could overclock them (not sure if its a good idea, considering it would make even more heat).
They could also release an upgrade for it expanding the RAM to 1gb, and maybe adding a bit more graphical processoring power or even a weakened version of the cell (3 SPEs at 3.2ghz) and the orginal PPE would still manage these new SPEs.
If they did both of these things, and along with price, and by this time, developer being able to develop easily for the PS3, they could keep up for a bit more and still be a challenge toward the next-gen consoles.

Well adding more ram would be difficult and troublesome. I do agree though if prices continue to drop, and development gets easier, the ps3 will improve.
Also, can one of the cells do something with graphics to relieve the stress on the gpu so the gpu can produce better images?

yes it can, the first design on the ps3 i think it involved just two cells and no graphics card, someone correct me if i am wrong
