Well, it's not Free. It comes from your taxes. If your income is too low to have to pay taxes (8500$ and less I think) then you pay nothing. Other than that, you pay proportionately to your income. EDIT: But all you need to do when you walk in for healthcare is bring your medical insurance card and voilà, you're admitted (after a certain amount of time in the waiting room in case of non-emergencies.)
