Since 360 and PS3 are close competitors when it comes to raw power. The cost would probably the same. It's Blu-Ray's fault, if they didn't implemented it. A PS3 would cost $400 @ launch. Further more Blu-ray also delayed the release of the PS3.
Sony is still suffering, but soon consumers will have have the Ultimate Gaming and Media System of this generation. With a great library of games and movies. They wouldn't have a Wii motion controller though, so a feather to Nintendo for that.
Sony could easily kill Microsoft if they didn't add in Blu-ray. The truth is they didn't and Microsoft is stealing many gamers from them. Blu-ray is here to stay and will be cheap next generation. It won't be an issue next generation. The PS4 will be powerful. Sony's big problem next generation is an early release forced by Microsoft.
