You're correct, sir. Natrually, PS3 will not recoup the cost of its own development or sales at a loss on it's own, but I don't think Sony ever counted on it doing so. However, as long the PlayStation division as a whole stays profitable then it doesn't really matter if one system doesn't make a profit because most of the money put forth to develop new technology in any current system will be used in future systems. It's all one big investment to continue and drive forward the game industry. |
the only post in the three pages that I agree with. it doesn't matter if the ps3 doesn't make back the money it lost (though Sony would love it if it did). If the division makes money from continuing sales of the ps2, psp, and games from all three systems, that is what matters. Obviously Sony is looking at the billions Nintendo is making by selling two systems at a profit and will want to copy that. Especially when it doesn't take much more than they have right now to easily have all games in 720p and a good number of games in 1080p. And think of the billions Sony would make if they fix the piracy problem on the psp2, sell it at a profit along with its games, sell the ps3 at a profit at the end of its life plus its games, and decide to follow Nintendo's path and sell the ps4 at a profit along with its games.
