"Clearly, Tales isn't breaking any new ground in terms of story." Yup, i meant concerning the story

"Although that story plays out in a linear fashion." Maybe not the whole game, but still

Every JRPG has a story that plays out in a linear fashion, and the Tales of series stories are usually relatively generic(though well done), like FFVII, however, they have great character development and interactions, like FFVII, and by the end of the game, you probably would care for all the characters, if you weren't a cynical curmudgeon like WoW.

Read the IGN review. You'll know if you would like it or not by the end of that review. You should also check out the video review, if it interests you.

What makes a generic story well done?

EDIT:Sorry, awkward question
