I agree with you too an extent. Personally I don't feel that just because a game has great graphics means the gameplay sucks (see LBP). But I can see where some of the Wii fans are coming from. Look at Doom3. For it's time, it was absolutely stunning. And then you played it. id spent so much time on the engine to make the graphics look good that the gameplay suffered.

I agree with you on this. I had this feeling specially with many PC games, but also with Gears of War. Many games look as if they are mainly intended for producing great screenshots and lack elsewhere, which can also be graphics related such as the quality of animation, lighting dynamics, etc.

But many of the best games are the exceptions. For example Mario64 offered great yet simple graphics for its time. The God of War games offer great graphics and a feel of quality throughout including the gameplay. Half-Life not only looked great for its time, the game was quite unique and played great.

But IMO Gears of War has the graphics but lacks the quality feeling a game like God of War offers throughout. The Ninja Gaiden games obviously offer good gameplay, but the graphics upgrade for the PS3 does add to the game.

IMO games can benefit greatky from better graphics. Ratchet and Clank future for example looks very promising.
