I don't know what homegenous means, but I'm assuming from the context of the word and the "homo" that they're saying that the country is the same everywhere, or something along those lines. I've been to Florida and New York, and both of those have been very different, not that it has anything to do with anything.
And I agree, but there's nothing that can be done about it... I mean, whose language would become the primary? I vote English, because I am, well, English. But a French-speaker would vote for French, Spanish for Spanish, etc. Without the EU there would only be two world-powers, US and China, the EU is designed to stop that, and it's really the best we can do.
The EU doesn't even have a universal currency, well, it has the Euro, but when one of the main drivers of the European economy refuses to use it (the UK), it doesn't do much. Imagine how strong the Euro would be if it had all members on board?
We don't even drive on the same side of the road! Or use the same plug-sockets. Really, the EU came too late. If it came 200 years ago, it would have been very different. I know it hasn't, and there's no way to change that... but one can dream, one can dream.
