Everything in moderation. I know a lot of people like the cut scenes so it's a personal opinion but I find it gets in the way of the game. (I don't have a PS3 or MGS4 but I did buy a PS2 and one of the MGS games which I later returned because I was extremely disappointed). A game is supposed to be interactive and I agree with CliffyB that MGS has too much passive entertainment. If I want to see 45 minutes of Japanese animation I'll watch a Manga video.

Kojima is a pioneer and a perfectionist - he will never be truly happy with his games. Hopefully he can find a way to explain the game plot in an interactive manner.

FYI, it's called anime.

Also, there is a trend that may or may not notice.  The games that tend to be criticized for the lengthy cutscenes happen to have been developed in Japan and the games that use interactiveity to advance the story are made in the West
