Common sense wins again. Why would Sony ever buy Mirror's Edge exclusivity? There is no reason.

The same reason Sony would want MGS4 exclusivity, I'd assume. It looks like it's going to be a good game.

There seems to have been some anti-Mirror's Edge posters that popped up because of this controversy, I don't get it. When the game trailer premiered, everyone was in awe. I'm still relatively excited about the game. Are there people who aren't?

Common sense, to me, dictates that a console wants as many exclusives as it can get its hands on. Especially hyped exclusives. "Sony just didn't want it," is bull. Everybody wants it. Who doesn't want it? What console manufacturer doesnt' want a hyped 3rd party exclusive on their console? That's bogus, and runs contrary to common sense.

MGS4 is an established franchise and just because Mirror's Edge looks good, it means nothing. We have many examples of when a game looked good in previews but turned out to be bad and good games that sold poorly. Mirror's Edge is a brand new IP and even though I am personally very excited about the game, from the business stand point that IP is not worth that much.

I disagree. I think the IP is worth as much as, say, LBP, which also isn't an established franchise, but is very hyped and anticipated. I think LBP exclusivity is worth something, and I think Mirror's Edge exclusivity would have been worth something, if to no one else, than the gamers themselves.

It's never about one game. No single 360 jRPG has given the 360 the rep of "best system to own for jrpgs." It's a combination of a lot of games. LO, ES, ToV, IU, TLR, SO4, FFXIII, together make a cohesive argument for prospective system buyers, who happen to be jrpg fans.

Now, if Sony had to choose between one of the "PS3 exclusive games list" from above, or one of the lists above with the added game Mirror's Edge, they would be fools not to choose the list with the extra free game, Mirror's Edge. However, EA isn't gonna time an exclusive for cheap, and Sony has gone on record as saying that they don't pay 3rd parties for exclusives(I think). That, along with the userbase and attach rate of the 360, cause debacles like FFXIII to happen, and gives EA a great reason to make their games multiplats.

So, yeah, I see why, for software and hardware sales, MGS4 is more important, but the key word here is "more." MGS4 is "more" important, but Mirror's Edge is still important. Even Too Human and Haze maintained some importance after their respective flops, because they sold software and allowed for more hype for the console in the preceeding months.

Therefore, common sense indicates that Sony would want Mirror's Edge exclusivity, but they are simply not willing to pay for it. Neither is Microsoft. If there was a 3rd party game that I would want as a console exclusive to my console this holiday season that isn't already exclusive, I'd go with Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, or Call of Duty 5.

So yes, the prospect of Sony NOT wanting one of those games as an exclusive, assuming it was free, is ludcrious. Of course Sony wants all of those games as exclusives. So does Microsoft. Doesn't mean it could happen though.

Here's where everything falls apart. No one's arguing this point. I and everyone else that is agreeing with me is arguing that it isn't worth spending money (i.e. Moneyhatting) for Mirror's Edge exclusivity. In other words, common sense says Sony wouldn't want this game.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
