Case study of the sony fan: Notice how the PS3 fan starts and finishes with praising the PS3, even though it was completely irrelevant to the question :) He/She didn't ask for an advertisement, just the cost of producing.
On topic: I don't think anyone would know outside of sony, we can all take guesses and that's about it really. My guess is that right now each PS3's selling price ensures that it's either breaking even or making a bit of money on the actual production cost of that one console. Where it turns into a Net Loss is when you include all the R&D originally for the PS3 and establishing the production facilities/outsourcing to another company in order to build the darn thing.
