RPGs are simply missunderstood by most "Americans" but not the "GAMERS" i believe. It appeals to the Jap loving/Anime crowd of the US and there are many of us. Enough to get some decent sales out of a good RPG.And also, Ninja Gaiden is not an RPG, you should have said Mass Effect. OT:The original RPGs on the 360 were: Mass Effect(Good), Blue Dragon (Terrible),Lost Odyssey (Mixed Opinions), Eternal Sonata(Good), Tales of Vesperia(Good) None of the the previously stated JRPGs have passed the million mark which in my opinion and developers out there is range of a successful game, especially with how much they cost these days. Mass Effect had an advantage over it's JRPG counterparts cuz it catered to the audience that the 360 is known for, shooters. THat is why the game at least got into the millions mark. By acquiring as many JRPGs as possible MS is trying to cut in on what Sony has held as their stronghold for so long, RPGs. This was always their ace in the whole, FF especially. Whether MS has made any real ground has yet to be seen. None of there JRPGs have made any groundbreaking success(besides TOV selling well in Japan) so expect many JRPG companies to be steering towards multiplat or PS3 exclusive from now on. Now it is Sony's turn to get a plethera of JRPGs. I expect these to sell better as I dont believe the fanbase of the system has changed. I believe every JRPG for PS3 will at least sell a mill (the good ones, not shit like Enchanted Arms). Disgaea 3, WKC, Valkyria Chronicles, FFXIII, and FF Versus XIII, these are almost assured million sellers(speculation anyway).
Yet MS is not giving up on the Genre without a fight. They have come a long way from having an JRPG less system alla the XBOX and having more then Sony at this point. The head start they had really helped them in this department as it would be simple to get companies to sign on because you have the larger fanbase. Unfortunately for the JRPG market it has not proven itself to be in their favor. |
I have no doubt that FFXIII, FFvXIII, and WKC will be million sellers. However, Disgaea 3 and VC would be lucky to reach 500K
