The Orc Holocuast
I pretty much had this sentiment far longer than this blog. There is far more I wish to add, but will only give a snippet. The article mentions that D&D plays like a video game. Heres the catch. The modern hardcore video game were started by people who were D&D fans. Yes indeed. The first video games were D&D nerds. This means that our current video games market of Hit Points, Levels, upgrades and so on. Comes from a crappy ill designed RPG game.
Instead if the first VGs were developed by nerds who played RPG based on common sense rather than HP inflation. We would see more games that incorporatin dodging, manouvers. Games like SoTC, DMC4 combat system would have been pushed our eariler as companies try to find new ways to avoid getting hit. Rather than just upping HP and soak.
As for no RPG world without Gygax. Well many say Sony could have done what Nintendid next generation. That leaves my argument just as iffy.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
