Depends on how you define influential. It took the rpg to the masses, and spawned a successful television show, card game and movies. It was probably the most successful game ever to bridge the gap between games and other artistic mediums. But in terms of the mechanics of the rpg, no I'll agree with you there. It shouldn't be on the list if we're just talking about games in isolation.
