It seems Sony did a bad job at showing Heavy Rain in the way they did. It also seems that 'a lot' of people don't even know adventure games or played Quantic Dream' other masterpiece 'Indigo Prophecy', also known as 'Fahrenheit'. I think Sony did a bad job at showing Heavy Rain because a lot of people don't seem to get it.

Heavy Rain is NOT a game with just cut-scenes mixed with QTEs. As a player you control your characters moves the whole time. From the moment the lady(from the trailer) got off her bike, to the point where she is exploring the house and found these bodies, you as a player are controlling her every move. You're choosing which way you want to go, what object or people you want to interact with and so on, and so on.

Suddenly that fat-guy comes home. As a player you still control your character, but you have to make a choise: confront the guy(as shown in the trailer) or sneak through the house to find and exit without him knowing you were there. At these moment where you have to choose, on-screen you have a smaller window where you can follow this guy' every move. That makes it easier for you to make choices. In the trailer you notice that she tries to escape silently, but she makes to much noise so the guy knows someone is in his house. When you two finally confront eachother, THAT'S the moment when these QTEs will start, as shown in the trailer.

SO, from the moment you get off your bike to the moment where you actually meet that fat-guy in his own house, you are in total control of your character. BUT, you can only move like a normal person would in that context. So no jumping around, no barrel-rolls, no punching and kicking in the air or things like that.

Remember, it's not an action game. It's a story-driven adventure where you have to solve puzzles and explore things to make progress in the story. Every choice you make(and you have to make a lot, and moral ones) in this game will have a real impact on the gameplay and the story.

Well said. I was going to explain it but you did a much better job than I would have. Good post.
