No, you can't play any PS2 games on any 40GB or the NEW 80GB systems. The OLD 80 GB system had partial software BC in that it stil contained 1 of the 2 required PS2 chips and emulated the other. The NEW 80GB system and 40GB systems would have to have a firmware update that emulates both chips, thus it would be Full software BC, not partial.

I'm hoping they figure it out and release a firmware upgrade. Heck, I would pay 30$ in the PSN store for a downloadable PS2 emulator.
