For Marth's spike to work, you have to be above them. The sweet spot is fairly small, however, compared to his other aerials. So, you have to hit with only the tip, because if you do tipper the dair but another part of Marth's sword hits a different body part you won't get the tipper. The spacing has to be absulotely perfect.

To make spiking easier, jump off backwards. The hit box is bigger and you can spike from the side, too.

It doesn't matter, though. Marth's spike is not reliable or safe like Samus'. It's incredibly situational.
