somebody already pointed it out. Disc is reserved usually for optical. No-doubt this was one of Sony's ideas. I can recreate the conversation now:
Sony Exec 1: So what do you think about the Compact Disk, I call it a CD.
Sony Exec 2: Oh yea, "Compact" is very marketable, "CD" is very marketable, in fact, that acronym might become a new social norm.
Sony Exec 3: But what about the "K"!? It's so... bleh.
Sony Exec 1: Uhhh... maybe we should turn it into a "C"
Sony Exec 2: That's genius, it works phonetically and it incorporates a "C" as in "CD".
Sony Exec 3: Our genuis just made me splooge.
Ken Kutaragi: Dont forget that it's FOURTH DEMINSIONAL!!
